I left this piece natural with holes and edges using a varathane finish. This area is reinforced with inlaid plywood underneath the table. This is why I thought it better to leave it natural. The hard work paid off as it is a truly unique and handcrafted piece of furniture, with a free-form shape from an actual burl, not a slab.
